A design draughtsman with around 8 years work experience in 2D and 3D CAD draughting and a huge passion for cars and the engineering behind them.
Originally studied Motorsport Engineering at university, focusing on CAD design longing for a career designing racing cars. Unfortunately, due to living and being heavily rooted on the Isle of Wight in the UK, the job prospects for this career were pretty much non existent without significant relocation.
Creating this blueprint artwork is my way of satisfying a passion for drawing cars and collecting technical data about them, whilst simultaneously filling a gap in the market for high quality personalised gifts for the car enthusiast market.
The Black Art Graphics concept for laser etched blueprint artwork was originally conceived as an idea for a retirement gift for my boss. The original design was created as one of our in house technical drawings detailing his cherished Austin Healey 3000 sports car and featuring the company logo, along with the signatures of other key members of staff and a list of his favourite quotes.
Since then the popularity of the idea was made apparent and following a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund the purchase of my own Trotec laser system, I am now fully set up to produce these pieces in house.
The core product is the 3mm thick A3 size (420x297mm) custom blueprint artwork. The plaques are laser cut with rounded corners from 5000 series aluminium sheet, then deburred and polished prior to anodising in matte black with a novel jigging method which almost completely eliminates visible clamp marks. The plaques are anodised on all faces, meaning that laser marking on both faces is possible, allowing personalised messages to be added to the rear of the plaque so as not to detract from the artwork.
From there I work with each customer personally to create their blueprint artwork whether it is a unique gift for a loved one, or a keepsake for your own cherished vehicle. I will draw up a highly detailed vector based four view othographic projection drawing including, where ever possible, brakes behind alloy wheels, headlight details behind the lenses, dashboard layout through the windscreen and underbody detailing.
To this, we can then add the technical specification for your car, whether it is the factory specification or that of a highly modified competition vehicle. The result is a highly detailed and totally personalised drawing, the likes of which you won't just find available to download from the internet!
The finished drawing is then laser engraved into the anodic layer at 500dpi and the finished plaque is then packaged in a premium Black Art Graphics branded gift box and supplied with a frameless hanging kit. When wall mounted the kit stands the plaque off from the wall by 10mm, casting a shadow behind it to accentuate the fact that this is not just a printed poster but a solid piece of Engineered Art!
